Chinatown celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival 2013 with an Official Opening & Light-Up Ceremony hosted by Danny Yeo. Organised by Kreta-Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative Committee, the event also saw Chinatown breaking a Singapore record for Largest Display of Street Lanterns – altogether 20,000 lanterns – and setting a Singapore record for Largest Lantern Structure Made of Lanterns – 580 in total – in the Singapore Book of Records.

The night’s programme started with a welcome address by Chairman of Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2013 Organizing Committee, Mr Vincent Tan, PBM, and an opening address by Grassroots Adviser and Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC, Dr Lily Neo. The guest of honour was Deputy Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean.

The highlight of the evening was Kaleidoscope of Lanterns, an hour-long spectacular production featuring colourful cultural performances and exciting acrobatic stunts, performed by local and overseas performers. To top it off, there was also a dazzling finale of fireworks.

The Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2013 was organised by the Kreta-Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative Committee with support from the Singapore Tourism Board, Central Singapore Community Development Council and Chinatown Business Association.

Throughout the month of September 2013, Chinatown invites everyone to bring family and friends to soak in the festive ambience at the Festive Street Light-Up (7 Sep – 4 Oct), the bustling Festive Street Bazaar and Carnival (6 – 19 Sep), the Nightly Stage Shows (7 – 19 Sep) and the Chinatown Mass Lantern Walk on 15 Sep 2013.
